US President Donald Trump has decided to appoint a committee to investigate allegations that Federal Reserve board member Lisa Cook provided incorrect information in connection with mortgage documents.
The committee will assess whether there are legal grounds for removing Cook from the central bank’s board. It will hold a closed-door hearing at the White House on November 5, 2026, where Cook will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations and present evidence.
The committee consists of representatives from the White House Council of Economic Advisers, the federal ethics agency and the agency for equal opportunities in working life.
The Supreme Court stopped Trump from removing Cook in June, but at the same time left open the possibility for the president to make another attempt.
