The number of ongoing debt collection cases declined between June and August, according to new statistics from Svensk Inkasso. A total of 1 787 824 new claims were registered, while 1 798 419 cases were closed, resulting in a net decrease of 10 595 cases.
June and July 2026 were the first two consecutive months since statistics began being collected in 2023 in which the number of ongoing claims declined. The volume increased again in August, but not enough to erase the summer decline.
Between January and August, 4 972 356 new debt collection claims were registered, 8.7 percent fewer than a year earlier. The year-to-date net figure remains positive, however, with 143 436 more cases added than closed, compared with approximately 344 200 during the corresponding period in 2025.
Approximately 87 percent of the cases closed in August concerned debts of less than SEK 5 000.
