The space company Spacex is seeking permission to build an approximately 51-kilometer-long natural gas pipeline in Florida to secure fuel for Starship launches from Cape Canaveral. This is stated in an application to the Florida Public Service Commission.
The pipeline is planned in Brevard County and is to be connected to Florida Gas Transmission, which is operated by Energy Transfer. Spacex uses liquid methane as fuel for Starship and currently has liquefied natural gas delivered by truck. The company has also begun recruiting natural gas traders with the aim of securing a more reliable and cost-effective fuel supply.
Spacex shares rose 7.6 percent on Monday after Morgan Stanley reiterated its overweight rating and 300-dollar price target. The bank points to the next Starship test, which is expected at the end of October or the beginning of November, as a potential catalyst.
