Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC is considering expanding into the production of advanced memory chips. At the request of its largest customer Nvidia, the company has begun planning production of so-called 3D DRAM chips, The Information reports, citing two people familiar with the matter.
It is not yet clear when production could begin. TSMC is considering both building new factories and acquiring an existing facility for conversion to memory production. The company declines to comment on market rumors and speculation.
