Leading European stock exchanges are edging higher at lunchtime on Tuesday, while oil has turned lower.
The broad European Stoxx 600 index was up 0.14 percent at 642.81 at 10:49. During the day, the index has traded within a range of 0.71 percent at the low and 1.26 percent at the high.
By sector, retail is performing best, up 1.79 percent, while media is the second-best performer, up 1.16 percent.
Insurance is performing worst, down 0.95 percent, while energy is the second-weakest performer, down 0.79 percent.
Brent crude is trading at $99.14 per barrel, down 1.1 percent on the day. This morning, the price was just above $102.
Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the US lifts the blockade of Iranian ports and ends military operations around the strait. Kyodo News reports this, citing a senior Iranian government source.
UBS expects improved performance in the third quarter compared with the year-earlier period, with continued strong activity in both wealth management and transactions. However, performance is not expected to be as strong as during the unusually strong third quarter of 2025, CEO Sergio Ermotti said, according to Bloomberg News. The stock is down 1.9 percent.
IT consulting company Digia is falling nearly 7 percent after lowering its forecast for EBIT operating profit in 2026 and now expecting earnings below last year’s EUR 21.3 million. Previously, the forecast was for earnings to be at or above the 2025 level.
Industrial group Smiths Group increased revenue by 2.1 percent to GBP 1,937 million for the full year, while organic growth was 1.2 percent. Adjusted operating profit increased by 2.7 percent to GBP 399 million. The stock is rising 5.1 percent.
Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche is down 0.3 percent. The company reports positive results from a phase 2 study of enicepatide in adults with type 2 diabetes and overweight or obesity.
Sampo, the second-largest shareholder in Noba Bank, is selling 14.7 million shares at a price of SEK 85 per share. The transaction is worth SEK 1.25 billion and is being carried out at a discount of around 3 percent compared with Monday’s closing price. Sampo is down 0.2 percent in Helsinki.
French banking giant BNP Paribas has hired Goldman Sachs to sell the Spanish business of consumer credit company Cetelem. The bank is targeting a price above EUR 1 billion, Cinco Días reports, citing sources in the financial industry. The stock is rising 0.5 percent.
Germany’s leading economic institutes are raising their forecast for the country’s GDP growth in 2026 to 1.3 percent, from 0.6 percent previously, according to Reuters sources. For 2027, the forecast is raised to 1.1 percent from 0.9 percent previously.
