Mondi increases profit – but higher costs weigh

Packaging and paper company Mondi reports underlying EBITDA of 196 million euros for the third quarter, compared with 167 million euros in the previous quarter. However, adjusted for changes in the value of forest assets, earnings declined, mainly as a result of planned maintenance shutdowns. This is according to an operational update.

Rising input costs have also had an impact, which the company has had to offset through higher selling prices.

Energy costs increased more than expected, while wood costs rose in Central and Eastern Europe. Mondi has therefore announced further price increases for several paper grades, with the expected effect toward the end of 2026 and during 2027.

Within corrugated packaging, higher prices were offset by increased costs and continued margin pressure. The uncoated fine paper business was affected by seasonally weaker demand.

The company expects the change in the value of forest assets to be zero in the fourth quarter as well, provided current energy prices persist. At the same time, Mondi continues to streamline its production network and has sold one plant and agreed to sell another.
