Liquid Wind founder and CEO Claes Fredriksson, together with former CFO Benny Mai, has bought virtually the entire bankruptcy estate following the e-methanol company’s bankruptcy in May, Ny Teknik reports.
The acquisition is being made through the newly established Liquid Energy Design and includes, among other things, projects in Örnsköldsvik, Umeå and Sundsvall, as well as two projects in Finland. The Danish subsidiary is not included. The deal was made in July and finalized in August after approval from ISP.
Fredriksson says the company is in talks with a larger partner and several financiers, but that financing for the planned factories has not yet been secured.
In 2025, Liquid Wind received SEK 39 million in support from the Swedish Energy Agency for the project in Örnsköldsvik, with a planned capacity of 100,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year.
– We are doing some things differently this time. And we hope that the world, the regulatory framework and the level of what people are willing to pay for marine fuel have caught up. We were too early, or the world moved too slowly. Geopolitics and difficult presidents have put obstacles in the way of green climate investments. Hopefully, our timing is right now. All credit to our partners in Sundsvall, Umeå and Örnsköldsvik, who still believe in us and want to continue being partners, Claes Fredriksson tells Ny Teknik.
