L3Harris Technologies has begun delivering the first Vampire systems to the US Army for defense against hostile drones, according to a press release.
The first deliveries took place within two months of the Army’s $106 million order. Vampire is a stand-alone weapons system that can be used for reconnaissance and precision engagement of drones and other remotely piloted aircraft.
L3Harris states that the system has been used in European combat operations for more than 350,000 hours since 2023. The company states that it has also opened a dedicated production facility in Huntsville, Alabama, to meet increased demand.
