Dutch brewing giant Heineken is urging British pubs and bars to adapt their offerings to the growing use of weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy. The drugs may reduce the desire for alcohol and thereby put pressure on sales of beer and cider, Reuters reports, citing a company presentation.
Heineken recommends smaller serving sizes, non-alcoholic alternatives and combinations of drinks and small dishes.
According to research firm Circana, US households with users of GLP-1 drugs spent around 7 percent less on alcohol after two years, including 13.5 percent less on beer, compared with households without users.
Heineken, which owns more than 2,000 pubs in the UK, says it is monitoring the changes in consumption patterns. Beer sales at British drinking establishments amounted to almost 14 billion pounds in the year to February 2026.
