The US competition and consumer protection agency FTC has requested extensive documentation from the AI companies OpenAI and Anthropic as part of an investigation into possible violations of consumer protection rules. Axios reports this, citing a source.
On Wednesday, the agency sent formal demands of more than 50 pages to each company. The requests cover, among other things, security incidents, safeguards, marketing materials and privacy policies.
The FTC also plans to summon senior representatives of the AI companies for questioning about their products, according to the report.
The investigation comes as OpenAI is facing a separate consumer protection lawsuit from several US states, which accuse the company of misleading users about the safety of its chatbots.
