European Commission approves Temu’s action plan following DSA violations

The European Commission has approved the Chinese e-commerce platform Temu’s action plan to address breaches of the EU’s Digital Services Act, DSA. This is stated in a press release.

The action plan, which Temu submitted in August, aims to improve the company’s risk assessments regarding the spread of illegal products on the marketplace. The Commission previously found that Temu had failed to meet its obligations to assess these risks.

Temu has undertaken to implement five corrective measures. These include more extensive risk analyses, improved evaluation of content moderation, and a review of how the platform’s recommendation systems and algorithms may contribute to the spread of illegal products. The company will also examine how sellers can exploit the platform’s features to disseminate prohibited product listings.

Temu now has four months to implement the action plan and must then have an independent party review the outcome. The review report must be submitted to the Commission within an additional four months.

The European Commission will monitor the implementation, with particular focus on the areas where the board previously identified shortcomings.

Temu is part of PDD Holdings.
