EU presses UK for higher tariffs on Chinese cars – FT

The EU has indicated that the UK could avoid trade barriers under the proposed ”Made in Europe” rules by raising tariffs on Chinese cars and moving closer to the bloc’s trade policy. Financial Times reports, citing sources.

The UK currently has a 10 percent tariff on Chinese cars, while the EU imposes additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. The new rules aim to reduce dependence on Chinese components but at the same time risk affecting the British automotive industry’s access to the EU’s production chains and market.
