EU fees on Shein and Temu could generate 6 billion euros annually

EU fees on low-cost e-commerce parcels from, among others, the Chinese companies Shein and Temu could generate 6 billion euros annually for the bloc’s budget during the 2028–2034 period. Reuters reports this, citing a document from the European Commission.

From 1 November, an additional fee of 2 euros per item will be introduced, on top of the 3 euros introduced in July. The measures aim to limit the inflow of low-cost goods, primarily from China.

Last year, 5.8 billion parcels worth less than 150 euros entered the EU, an increase of 26 percent. The Commission expects around 90 percent of the fee revenue to go to the EU budget and the remainder to the member states.
