EU countries have scrapped the proposal to offer Canada associate membership status in the union ahead of this week’s EU-Canada summit, Politico reports, citing a draft.
Germany, Italy, Greece and France are among the countries that opposed the wording.
The latest draft instead refers to ever-closer association between Canada and the EU, but without full membership. The text still needs to be formally approved.
