An Advocate General at the EU Court of Justice recommends that TikTok’s appeal against the company’s classification as a gatekeeper under the EU’s Digital Markets Act, DMA, be dismissed. Reuters reports.
Advocate General Andrea Biondi believes that a lower court was right to reject TikTok’s action in 2024. The EU Court of Justice’s ruling is expected in the coming months. The Advocate General’s opinion is not binding, but the court follows such recommendations in around 80 percent of cases.
The DMA imposes specific competition requirements on large technology platforms, where violations can lead to fines of up to 10 percent of the company’s global annual turnover.
