US pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA, for Onswik, a basal insulin administered once a week for adults with type 2 diabetes. This is stated in a press release.
The approval is based on the phase 3 Qwint program involving more than 3,400 adults, in which Onswik reached the primary efficacy endpoint and demonstrated a comparable reduction in long-term blood sugar levels to daily basal insulins.
Onswik has previously received regulatory approvals in Europe, Mexico and Japan. The drug is not intended for people with type 1 diabetes due to an increased risk of severe hypoglycemia.
