Boeing has been awarded a contract by defense company Lockheed Martin worth approximately USD 14.7 billion, equivalent to SEK 147.6 billion, to scale up production and deliver seekers for PAC-3 MSE missiles used in the Patriot air defense system. This is stated in a press release.
The agreement enables Boeing to triple production of the seekers under a previously announced seven-year agreement with the US Department of Defense. The seekers are used to identify, track and engage aircraft as well as hypersonic, ballistic and cruise missiles.
Boeing has already begun increasing production and recruiting personnel. The initiative is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs in Huntsville, Alabama.
