India’s Bharti is ready to launch satellite-based internet services in India but is still awaiting security approvals. The company is ahead of Elon Musk’s Starlink in the licensing process, according to Bharti Enterprises founder and chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal. Mint reports this.
At the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Mittal said that Bharti applied for a licence five years ago and that its ground network had been ready for three years. The statement comes after Musk accused Indian telecom billionaires of obstructing Starlink’s establishment in the country.
In the summer of 2025, Starlink received regulatory approvals to operate in India, including a five-year commercial licence.
