Vaccine company Bavarian Nordic is donating 75,000 doses of the mpox vaccine MVA-BN and has simultaneously secured a contract to supply an additional 150,000 doses to a new global emergency stockpile.
The stockpile is coordinated by a WHO-affiliated group and initially funded by the vaccine alliance Gavi.
”Infectious diseases do not stop at national borders, and communities need rapid access to protection when outbreaks occur. The establishment of a global emergency stockpile for mpox vaccines is an important milestone in strengthening preparedness for future outbreaks,” says Hitesh Sahni, Executive Vice President responsible for public health preparedness at Bavarian Nordic.
”Ensuring rapid and equitable access to vaccines is critical to protecting populations and enabling effective public health responses. We are proud to initiate a new collaboration with ICG’s partner to build a more coordinated and resilient response to the recurring threat from mpox,” Sahni continues.
