Tesla has been appointed the primary supplier in a US procurement of 2,500 heavy-duty electric trucks, the largest order of its kind to date in the US. This is stated in a press release.
Volvo participated with the VNR Electric model but was instead appointed, together with Kenworth and Ride, as a secondary supplier. Their trucks can thus be used as an alternative to the Tesla Semi for certain transport needs, Ny Teknik reports.
How the order will be divided among the manufacturers is still unclear, the website writes.
Among the companies that will use the trucks are Microsoft and Pepsico. The aim is to eventually procure a total of 10,000 electric trucks.
