Bank of England Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden warns that time is running short to address the risk of autonomous AI agents causing severe disruption in financial markets. Bloomberg News reports.
The central bank is examining the possibility of a so-called kill switch that could limit or halt trading if AI models create market stress.
Breeden points in particular to the risk that AI agents respond similarly to the same signals and thereby amplify price movements, while real-time human oversight could become difficult.
