Air India wants to expand aircraft order – expects profitability soon

Indian airline Air India wants to expand its order for long-haul aircraft to strengthen international traffic. CEO Tewolde Gebremariam meanwhile expects the company to return to profitability very soon, Reuters reports.

Air India has held talks with both Boeing and Airbus about new aircraft, according to an industry source. The aim is to replace older, less efficient aircraft and open more international routes, while the company manages Pakistan’s airspace restrictions.

Since Tata Group regained ownership in 2022, Air India has carried out an extensive transformation programme with a renewed aircraft fleet, upgraded cabins and an expanded route network.
