The Russian-owned aluminium smelter Kubal in Sundsvall may be on the verge of being sold, according to information obtained by SVT. Three delegations from different countries, including Qatar and Sweden, are said to have recently visited the plant ahead of a possible purchase.
Kubal CEO Mats Andersson does not wish to comment on the reports.
Oligarch Oleg Deripaska, who is on the EU sanctions list, has been identified by the Swedish Tax Agency as the principal owner, something Kubal’s legal counsel previously dismissed.
According to journalist Knut Kainz Rognerud, the sanctions make a sale within the EU more difficult.
