Equinor opens test center for underwater robots – sees major savings

Norwegian energy company Equinor has opened a new test and development center for marine robotics at the Kårstø facility in Norway. This is stated in a press release.

The center, named KNARR, will be used to develop and test underwater robots and autonomous vessels for, among other things, inspection, monitoring and maintenance of offshore facilities.

Equinor and Gassco have so far allocated NOK 16 million to the establishment. Equinor sees potential to save several hundred million Norwegian kroner annually through increased use of underwater robots and autonomous vessels.
