An oil tanker has been hit by mines and caught fire east of the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran’s navy. This is reported by the state-run Iranian television channel IRIB.
The tanker, which has not been identified, reportedly attempted to pass through a prohibited and unsafe area.
Iran’s navy reiterates that the strait is closed to vessels attempting to pass without coordination with the country’s armed forces.
