The Dutch government plans to reduce the number of civil servants by 25,000 through efficiency measures using artificial intelligence, AI. The aim is to save 900 million euros annually by 2027 and 3.5 billion euros from 2035. Bloomberg News reports.
The cuts will be implemented over several years, and the government is expected to present its AI strategy at the beginning of next year.
The number of civil servants reached a record high of 160,000 at the end of 2025, an increase of 41 percent since 2018. At the same time, the country’s budget deficit stands at 1.8 percent, which is among the lowest in the EU.
