Producer prices in Sweden rose year-over-year in September (update)

(more information)

Producer prices in Sweden rose year-over-year in September.

Year-over-year, producer prices rose 11.2 percent (+6.8).

“The year-over-year rate in the PPI was 11.2 percent in September 2026, the highest since January 2023,” says Carl Mårtensson, price statistician at Statistics Sweden.

Measured month-over-month, the increase was 3.4 percent, the highest since March 2022.

The price increase was driven primarily by higher energy prices, with both electricity and refined petroleum products becoming more expensive in the domestic, export and import markets.

In the domestic market, prices rose 3.3 percent month-over-month, mainly as a result of more expensive electricity and petroleum products. Basic chemicals, metals and district heating also contributed to the increase, while lower food prices had a dampening effect.

Export prices increased by 3.6 percent, with refined petroleum products making the largest contribution. Prices of, among other things, motor vehicles, metals, machinery and paper also rose. Import prices increased simultaneously by 4.5 percent, mainly as a result of higher prices for crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas.
