Norwegian oil major Equinor and the other partners in the Troll field are completing the Troll West Electrification project without installing the second electric export compressor at Troll C, which was included in the original plan from 2021.
The decision follows a new assessment of emissions reductions, energy deliveries and value creation. An installation would have required extensive modifications and could have reduced production from Troll C for up to 21 months, the company writes in a press release.
Equinor estimates that the decision will make an additional approximately 2.3 billion standard cubic metres of gas available to Europe in 2027 and 2028. The electrification of Troll B and C has so far reduced emissions by approximately 330,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
