Choppy finish on Stockholm Stock Exchange, SEB fell on higher capital requirements

The Stockholm Stock Exchange closed unevenly on Wednesday after weakening towards the end of the day.

The performance was somewhat weaker than that seen on the leading European stock markets.

SEB was in focus after the announcement of higher capital requirements from the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. Among the companies reporting results, Avarda Bank rose, while Micro Systemation surged after issuing a positive profit warning.

At the close, the OMXS30 index was down 0.02 percent at 3,276.27. Shares worth approximately SEK 26.4 billion changed hands on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

Among the exchange’s larger industrial sectors, energy performed best, rising 2 percent.

The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority is raising major bank SEB’s CET1 capital requirement by a further SEK 10 billion after discovering more extensive deficiencies in the bank’s credit risk models. Operating profit is expected to increase by 57.2 percent to SEK 72 million, from SEK 45.8 million in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue is expected to rise by 19.4 percent to SEK 175 million.
