US Supreme Court to hear challenge seeking to block request for information on Doge – BN

The US Supreme Court will hear a bid to block efforts to obtain more information about the Department of Government Efficiency, Doge, the Elon Musk-led project behind a sweeping purge of federal agencies during the first months of Donald Trump’s second presidential term. Bloomberg News reports.

On Tuesday, the court announced that it will review a court ruling that would allow the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, CREW, to depose a senior official and request internal documents as part of litigation concerning freedom-of-information rules.

The Trump administration has appealed the ruling and is seeking confidentiality protection for an entity whose intense activity continues to leave deep marks on the federal government. Doge was behind the dismissal of tens of thousands of employees, the dismantling of government agencies, including the aid agency Usaid, as well as the cancellation of contracts and other spending worth billions of dollars.

Crew filed suit last year after the government refused to process a request for the release of documents concerning Doge. The Trump administration argues that Doge does not constitute an “agency” under the law, since the entity only advised the president and did not exercise any significant independent decision-making authority.
