German pharmaceutical company Biontech’s cancer immunotherapy BNT113 in combination with pembrolizumab did not meet the primary endpoint of progression-free survival in the phase 2/3 AHEAD-MERIT trial, compared with pembrolizumab alone.
The study, which includes patients with HPV16-positive head and neck cancer, is continuing as planned to evaluate the second primary endpoint, overall survival.
A statistically significant improvement in overall survival could indicate a positive study result despite the missed endpoint.
