UK Finance Minister John Healey has warned bank executives that the government is facing a difficult fiscal position ahead of the budget on 28 October. The Financial Times reports.
Healey said at the same time that the government has not yet made a decision on any tax increases. The bank executives argued against higher taxes on the sector.
The meeting also addressed increased lending to the real economy, lower capital requirements for banks and the UK’s competitiveness. The Treasury declined to comment on the details of the meeting.
