Hafnia has the opportunity to further increase its stake in product tanker shipping company Torm after Oaktree, through OCM Njord Holdings, put its remaining approximately 6.3 million A shares up for sale. The holding corresponds to around 6 percent of Torm’s share capital.
Maritime Danmark notes that Hafnia has gradually built up its holding in Torm and, following the latest purchase of 1.7 million shares, owns approximately 19.85 percent. The company bought its first larger holding from Oaktree in December and has previously pointed to the possibility of exploring “strategic opportunities” between the shipping companies.
If Hafnia buys Oaktree’s entire remaining holding, its ownership stake could increase by a further approximately 6 percent. A merger has been highlighted as a possible strategic development, but no such transaction has been announced.
