Kenya has confirmed its first case of Ebola. The person infected was a Kenyan citizen who had lived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and arrived in Nairobi on Saturday. The person has since died, says Kenya’s Health Minister Aden Duale. The Guardian reports.
The authorities have so far identified 28 people who were in contact with the infected person, including family members and healthcare workers.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has meanwhile been hit by its largest Ebola outbreak to date, caused by the rare Bundibugyo variant. The country has recorded more than 8,000 cases and over 4,000 deaths. The outbreak has also spread to Uganda, which was declared free of the disease by the WHO in August.
