McDonald’s sued over alleged AI-based price coordination

Fast-food giant McDonald’s has been sued in a proposed class action in federal court in Chicago for allegedly illegally coordinating menu prices between company-owned restaurants and franchisees with the help of an AI-based pricing system. Seeking Alpha reports this.

According to the lawsuit, algorithms trained on non-public data were allegedly used for price recommendations, which is claimed to violate U.S. antitrust law. McDonald’s dismisses the allegations as speculative and says that AI does not set menu prices and that franchisees make their own pricing decisions.
