Nofima states in a new report that closed fisheries and subsequent structural measures have increased profitability and efficiency in Norwegian fisheries, but at the same time concentrated substantial value among fewer operators.
The value of fishing permits has risen sharply, and high prices make it more difficult for new fishermen to establish themselves, which may run counter to goals concerning recruitment, settlement and activity along the coast.
