Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi does not support reflationary policies and respects the central bank’s independence, according to Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama. Bloomberg reports.
Katayama is thereby trying to play down investors’ concerns that the government wants to sharply increase spending and pressure the Bank of Japan to keep interest rates low. She also reiterated her readiness to intervene in the foreign-exchange market to support the yen and assessed that the recent rapid rise in bond yields will be temporary.
